Character: Livio the Doublefang
Canon: Trigun Maximum, during the Elendira fight!
Age: Appears to be in his 30s physically, actual age is around ~16-17
History: Link cw for child abuse, murder, experimentation, harm to minors.
Possessions: Cowboy hat, poncho, two vials of Wolfwood's healing serum (these allow the Eye of Michael assassins to recover fully from mortal blows, Livio doesn't typically need them, this is more of a Tragic Memento (tm) from Wolfwood)
Weapon: The double fangs, a pair of guns that he fights with. I'm okay with him keeping just one or neither of the two as well!

Powers/Abilities: Livio has been genetically experimented on to enhance his strength, durability, reflexes, senses, and healing. His healing is to the point where he can survive blows that should be mortal and heal in a matter of minutes. In exchange, he ages much faster than normal and his lifespan is very shortened. This can absolutely be nerfed.

He's also an excellent marksman. His guns can shoot in all directions and I don't know how he hasn't once shot himself because it makes no sense.

Speaking of things that don't make sense: This is not very relevant anymore, but as an example of how goofy Trigun is, Livio had a third arm surgically grafted on his back so Razlo could wield three punishers. It's since been completely destroyed, but the evidence the third arm being grafted is still on his back.

Application Questions

Who is the most important person in their life and why? What might be different if this person hadn't been around?
Nicholas D. Wolfwood! His adopted big brother, and the first person to ever show kindness to Livio in his life. In a lifetime of abuse, Livio met Wolfwood at the orphanage they were both raised at (shortly, in Livio's case), and Wolfwood convinced him to stop feeling sorry for himself and connect with the people around him. He did so by giving Livio a little tough love and throwing cans at his head, but his approach was effective in getting Livio, who was moping for days on end, to start participating in orphanage life, and it was the happiest Livio ever was. Unfortunately, their time together was cut short, as Livio's second personality, Razlo, came out to kill a beloved dog. From that point on, the orphanage kids regarded Livio with fear with disgust, and Livio, who had no memory of this event, ended up running away from the orphanage.

Though their time together was brief, years later, at the height of Livio's mental conditioning at the hands of the Eye of Michael (the cult who made him into an assassin/experimented on him/brainwashed him to all hell), Livio is still shown to respect him.

Furthermore, when Livio was good and brainwashed and trying to kill Wolfwood at the site of their old orphanage, Wolfwood basically risked his life to save him and break him out of the conditioning that had been inflicted upon him by the Eye of Michael. He took a fatal blow meant for Razlo, and essentially sacrificed himself to return Livio to his old self, which means Livio will always kind of revere him and put him on a pedestal. Livio considers Wolfwood to be family and his big brother, essentially.

After Wolfwood dies, Livio takes his place as Vash's partner, following his legacy and helping Vash defeat Knives and his underlings, aka: Livio's former allies. He takes Wolfwood's handgun and two serums as mementos, and tries to "live life like Wolfwood does", hoping to redeem himself a little by helping Vash and using his life to do good acts.

Is there an event in your character's life that they'd do differently? How so and why?
Yes, the entire prolonged showdown with Wolfwood at the site of their old orphanage. After Livio lost to Wolfwood, his super powered eviler alternate personality "Razlo" took over (who is a separate member of the assassins who serve the big bad, somehow...), and he essentially fought Wolfwood to the death. Wolfwood ended up taking a fatal blow for Razlo, as well as overdosing on a serum that allows him to heal from fatal wounds -- all to save Livio/Razlo. Through his efforts, Wolfwood is able to finally break Livio out of the conditioning and brainwashing the Eye of Michael (assassin cult serving the big bad) and return him to his former self. If given the opportunity, Livio would redo this entire event, defect on his own, and save Wolfwood's life and the orphanage. He feels extreme guilt over being the reason Wolfwood died! And as mentioned in the last question, he spends the rest of the his life trying to atone for Wolfwood's death by helping Vash. He even returns to the orphanage at the end of the manga to take Wolfwood's place as caretaker/adoptive big brother.

What's the greatest challenge you foresee your character facing in the setting? How might this impact their ability to adapt and in what ways will they confront this challenge?
In all honesty, the futuristic post-apocalyptical setting is not going to be very challenging for Livio to adapt to, because Trigun Maximum takes place on a very unhospitable desert planet that was not at all meant to house human life. The most difficult thing for him to adjust to would be, presumably having his abilities toned down, as he's used to relying on them to survive. He would have the most difficult time adjusting to the people and civilization in Panorama, as he's very socially awkward and doesn't much know how to talk to people. In a way, being surrounded by people who have no interest in killing him would be a big adjustment period, as he's essentially defected from the bad guys and is expecting to be hunted down at all times.

Livio would likely attempt to adapt to civilization by offering help where it's needed, awkwardly trying to make friends and adjust to being surrounded by people, especially people who don't wish him harm. Being shy and emotional, he's not likely to make many friends at first, and will take some time to come out of his shell, as he's generally a pretty quiet person. He's something of a protector as well, so he'd likely gravitate to innocents or children who aren't particularly adept at defending themselves.

Another challenge would be Razlo, when he appears. Razlo mainly surfaces when Livio is in extreme danger, but he's much more violent, vulgar, and insane than Livio proper. Razlo has much less investment in people than Livio, and his whole drive revolves around protecting Livio, but he's extremely brutal and liable to consider people or animals threats to Livio when they aren't (ie: the dog). This could present major friction between Livio and anyone else, and has the potential to scare away any CR he does make.

What's the easiest thing you foresee your character adapting to in the setting?
Adjusting to the setting itself, and driving will be the easiest for Livio to adjust to, as it's not a far cry from No Man's Land, the planet he inhabits in Trigun. He's likely to cry profusely the first time he ever sees Panorama, as it's a civilization that doesn't rely on Plants (basically humanoid creatures that can power a city/create food), any sort of grass, rain, etc. Normal plants and foliage are exceedingly rare in Trigun (especially without relying on a plant), so it would be overwhelming (in a good way) to Livio for him to be able to see and touch any sort of foliage or part of nature. He has never once seen rain, snow, forests, or most of anything Diadem contains.

The setting of Trigun Maximum is pretty reminiscent of Mad Max, including long drives through hostile terrain and travelling through unhospitable lands. That much is second nature to Livio, and his survivalist mentality will serve him well.

PHYSICAL INFORMATION:
He's very tall, at least 6'6" and extremely buff! His skin is tan, he's got pale silver hair and yellow eyes, with a tattoo over his left eye. He would be intimidating, if he didn't spend most of his time being an awkward dork, but his demeanor is generally shy.

MENTAL INFORMATION:

But he has a history of child abuse, child experimentation, suicidal ideation, religious brainwashing and indoctrination, gun violence, surgical horror, as well as what is implied to be dissociative identity disorder.

Livio is heavily implied to suffer from dissociative identity disorder, he has a second personality called "Razlo" who generally only comes out when he's in mortal peril. Razlo's personality is pretty different from Livio's, he's very vulgar, fiesty, violent, confrontational and loves fighting!!
